Mystics are a class of mortals who are born with magic,or the ability to tap into worldly energy,already inside of them. These mortals typically only have one or two powers that they excel at,though they'll have basic knowledge of several others. Mystics can be born to anyone - the parents do not have to be Mystics themselves. Mystic ability will typically lie dormant until the late teens,once the body itself has ceased development,though it is possible to screen for the dormant talent through DNA testing while a child. There are three levels of Mystics.
Novice Mystic - This is a Mystic who has just begun to undergo the change from dormant to active talent. Their primary and secondary powers will come to them randomly,usually through periods of extreme emotion. A Novice Mystic will typically want to seek out a sponsor Mystic as soon as they first experience a breakout of talent,which can be anything from a strange dream to setting something on fire to making the immediate area quake. The initial breakout of power is by no means an indication of what the Mystic's powers will be.
Intermediate Mystic - This is a Mystic who has discovered their primary and secondary powers,and has learned control over them. It can take a Novice Mystic anywhere from two weeks to several years for their sponsor Mystic to graduate them to Intermediate. The elevation from Novice to Intermediate is completed in a ritual that will allow the Mystic to begin opening their talent structure up to allow the basics of other powers entrance. Usually,these will be complements to their primary and secondary powers. Since the makeup of a Mystic does not allow enough talent room for mastering more than two powers,none of these complements are available for leveling up,except temporarily through linking. Master Mystic - This is a Mystic that has successfully mastered full control over their powers and complements. They are adept at linking with other Mystics,and have taken an oath with the local Elder of the Mystics to not use their powers for anything other than good. An Intermediate Mystic is graduated to a Master Mystic through a final ritual with their sponsor,in which they break the sponsorship and link together as full Mystics. A Mystic will typically keep a very close relationship with their sponsor,even after graduation to Master. Only a Master Mystic can become the sponsor of a Novice Mystic,and they may only sponsor one at a time.

Elder of the Mystics - The Elder of the Mystics is voted in by the Master Mystics of the city. This is not a lifetime position. Every six years,the Master Mystics of the city will convene and vote in a new Elder. An Elder may be cast out of the position if there is a unanimous vote from the Master Mystics. The Elder is not necessarily the most powerful Mystic,but rather the best suited for leadership. This is a local position,and there is no position above it. If any Mystic from another city visits,they are subject to the jurisdiction of the Mystics of the city they visit,no extradition.
Mystic Powers
Elemental:
Fire - the talent to conjure fire at will,either by thought or by hand.
Mastered - can fully control fire,making it moveable and containable.
Air - the talent to manipulate air,either by thought or hand
Mastered - can cause air to disappear and reappear at will
Earth - the talent to create or manipulate living things,either by thought or by hand
Mastered - can converse telepathically with living things,and manipulate organic materials to do their will over long periods of time
Water - the talent to create or manipulate water,either by thought or by hand
Mastered - can manipulate all liquids,including bodily fluids
Spirit - the talent to converse and commune with the spiritual
Mastered - can assume a spirit in body,and use spirits to achieve their will,can also lay a spirit to rest
Other:
Healing - the talent to heal wounds and illnesses
Mastered - detection of illness ahead of time,can heal major wounds
Protection - the talent to create protective wards for persons,objects,or places
Mastered - can detect when something or someone tests the wards,can induce the wards to counterattack someone or something that attacks the protected
Metalworks - the talent to manipulate metal to any shape
Mastered - can affect metal with magnetic-telepathic power
Memory - the talent to see into memories of others
Mastered - can manipulate the memories to be different,or can erase them completely
